Student Activist Sends SOS For India's Muslims After Government Demolishes Her Home
  • 2 years ago
Indian authorities bulldozed the house of Muslim student activist Afreen Fatima on June 12 following protests against anti-Islam remarks made by officials from India's ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party. Speaking to TIME, Fatima calls the demolition of her home and other Muslim-owned properties "collective punishment" against India's Muslim community and says the world must pay attention. "It's high time that the Indian government is held accountable for all the hate crime, all the human rights violation," Fatima says. "Consider this as an SOS message."
