Shaved ice dessert shop's popularity rises as Tokyo heatwave simmers
  • 2 years ago
Amid Tokyo’s record-breaking heatwave, customers waited in long queues outside Saika, a Japanese shaved ice dessert cafe in Tokyo’s historic Asakusa district, to seek reprieve. The decade-old eatery has received more customers than usual in June 2022, according to its owner, Taichi Someya. Japan’s weather agency expects the heat to persist until July 5, potentially causing a power crunch as the use of air conditioning rises.
