In Kanpur violence, various anti social stone pelting messages done on social media have come out. The planning of the violence was pre-planned and it was ensured through social media. Social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook were used to mobilize people. Police have got some such WhatsApp chats from Hayat Zafar Hashmi, the main accused of Kanpur violence.
