Communal clashes erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur after the Muslim community forced the closure of shops in a show of protest against BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s comments on Prophet Muhammad. Protesters resorted to stone pelting, and several gunshots were also heard. So far U.P police have taken 17 into custody in relation to the incident.
