The Whitewater-Baldy Fire Complex holds the previous record as the largest wildfire ever in NM, after burning a little under 300,000 acres.

The fire in Hermit’s Peak started as a controlled burn from the U.S. Forest Service that got out of control due to high winds. It merged with the Calf Canyon Fire (source thus far unknown), and has been pushed by high winds. Thousands of people are under evacuation orders, and it is unknown how many homes and structures have been destroyed.
