On May 16, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lankan Prime Minister said the nation's economy was in a precarious condition. He tweeted saying, “The next couple of months will be the most difficult ones of our lives.” Wickremesinghe said the cash-strapped island nation was currently out of petrol. The Prime Minister said that the nation had petrol stocks for a single day. Wickremesinghe said that power outages will increase to 15 hours a day. He also said that there is a severe shortage of medicine and surgical equipment.
