On This Day 1982: Falklands War - HMS Sheffield Sinks
  • 2 years ago
Here, the Sheffield’s Captain, James Salt, talks about the Argentine attack – the very short warning his crew received, the missile’s impact and aftermath.

The Exocet blew a huge hole in the ship’s side and led to an inferno on board - with some of the metal glowing red with the heat.

Twenty of Sheffield’s crew died in the attack and the ship later sank, on May 10, 1982. Report by Guinnesse. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn
