Eid ul-Fitr or Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated in India on May 3 as the crescent moon was not sighted on May 1. Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan or Ramadan when Muslims fast for 30 day or 29 days depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. Muslim families prepare various delicacies on Eid like biryani, kebabs, haleem, nihari, sevaiyan, sheer korma (sweet dish) among many others things. Elders in the family give Eidi (gift) to the younger ones. Muslims wear new clothes and girls apply mehendi. People visit their loved ones and wish each other ‘Eid Mubarak’.
