Johnny Depp trial - live: Court hears of actor’s time with Amber Heard on private island

Johnny Depp completed four days of testimony and cross-examination on Monday, describing shocking details of his relationship with ex-wife Amber Heard in his $50m (£38.2m) defamation lawsuit against her.

Heard is being sued by Depp for implying he abused her in a 2018 op-ed. Although she did not name him, he claims her allegations have made it difficult for the actor to land movie roles.

Depp described his struggles with sobriety and addiction, and the descent of his relationship with Heard into one of confrontation. Audio recordings of fights were played, including an admission that she hit him.

The court in Fairfax, Virginia, was told in-depth about a fight in Australia in March 2015 in which Depp’s fingertip was severed, allegedly by the force of a vodka bottle thrown by Heard. Her lawyers challenged his version of events, claiming he cut off his own finger, which he denied.

Photos of the destruction to the house and bizarre scribbles on mirrors in blood and paint were supplemented by the testimony of house manager Ben King who found Depp’s fingertip in the aftermath.

Today, the court hears from the manager of Depp’s private island, a forensic psychologist, and an LA police officer who responded to a call from Heard in May 2016.
