The new design of the P1,000 polymer banknote featuring the Philippine eagle has been released to the public by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on April 21, 2022.

The BSP said that the new banknote was made to help in responding to pressing public health and safety concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also promotes environmental sustainability, and deters counterfeiting.

Polymer bills can be sanitized since it is a plastic-based, which makes them more alternative to paper banknotes in terms of hygiene.
