In a shocker, the world’s #1 women’s tennis player Ash Barty announced her retirement from the sport at just 25 years old.

‘I am so thankful for everything this sport has given me and leave feeling proud and fulfilled. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, I'll always be grateful for the lifelong memories that we created together,’ Barty said in her announcement, via Instagram.

Barty leaves tennis with a combined 27 doubles and singles titles, including 3 Grand Slam singles titles. In her announcement, Barty said that she felt she had already accomplished everything she wanted to in her career, and her drive to keep up with the grind of professional tennis was waning.

‘There was a perspective shift in me in the second phase of my career, that my happiness wasn't dependent on the results, and success for me is knowing I've given absolutely everything I can,’ Barty said in her Instagram video.
