Sixteen Chinese military aircraft were detected on Monday entering the airspace over Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone in the disputed South China Sea. Wisma Putra said it will summon China's ambassador to relay “Malaysia’s serious concern”, while his ministry will lodge a formal diplomatic protest. China, however, has rejected Malaysia’s complaints, saying that its warplanes had been conducting routine training in accordance with international law. What potential diplomatic fallout could there be from this incident?
