Today marks 33 years since Ops Lalang, arguably the biggest crackdown on dissidents using the Detention Without Trial law -- the Internal Security Ac -- 106 politicians, NGO activists, academicians, and students were arrested. The Home Ministry also withdrew the printing and publishing licenses of The Star, Sin Chew and Watan which was restored only five months later. Does this instance of state repression and abuse of power have contemporary relevance?
