Interesting facts about brown recluse spiders
  • há 2 anos
Loxosceles Heineken & Lowe, 1832 is a genus of venomous arachnids belonging to the family Sicariidae, known for their necrotizing sting. Members of these genera are known by the common names of brown spiders (Brazil) or violin spiders (Portugal).
Information
Species of the genus Loxosceles have a total length of 3 to 4 cm, one third of which is the body, typically brownish in color. They have six eyes, whitish in color. Some feature the design of a star on the cephalothorax. The webs are small and jagged, only lining almost invisibly the ground and surroundings of their hiding place, serving as alarm cords. They are characterized by night pilgrimage and high activity in summer. During the day they remain hidden under tree bark and dry palm leaves - in nature - or behind furniture, things against walls, in attics, basements and garages - in the domestic environment.
