The Healing of Congressman William D Upshaw

United States Congressman William D. Upshaw was well-connected to William Branham’s healing revivals and ministry. He was also well-connected to Ku Klux Klan leader Roy E. Davis and Klan founder William Joseph Simmons, and almost single-handedly saved the white supremacy group from extinction in the early 1920s using his political power.
As the third wave of the Ku Klux Klan began, Roy E. Davis convinced William D. Upshaw to pose as a wheelchair invalid in William Branham’s “healing” revivals. Upshaw, who was confined to wheelchairs at the turn of the century, had been very mobile – even physically running on the House floor – for decades prior to his alleged “healing”. His testimony was very powerful towards boosting William Branham’s declining popularity in the early 1950s. According to the story given to crowds, Upshaw was allegedly healed of being confined to a wheelchair in 1951, only to die the next year in 1952.

How did you ever know those things?” I said, “I seen it by vision.” And he said, “The man that ordained you, Dr. Davis, in the Baptist church, told me to come here. And that’s why I’m here.” Said, “I’ve been going to healing services since I was a little boy trying to get healed. But,” said, “I’ve been crippled for sixty-six years.” And he’s eighty-six years old then.
