In 2017, several people belonging to Varanasi’s boatmen or Mallah community voted for the BJP in high numbers. But in the last few years, there has been simmering anger among the boatmen due to increasing privitisation in the area as well as the business hurt they have faced during the sudden Covid lockdown. But will this translate into them turning their backs against the BJP or will they continue to be loyal supporter? The Quint is in Varanasi to find out.
