'The Guardian' reports that tens of thousands of students were potentially exposed to toxins proven to cause learning and behavioral issues. .
Those toxins have also been proven to cause health problems that include damage to internal organs. .
The study was conducted by PennPirg,
a Pennsylvania public interest research group.
The Philadelphia school board has reportedly disputed the findings, claiming that systems are in place to prevent exposure to contaminated water. .
PennPirg claims that the data reviewed in their study is , "just the tip of the iceberg.".
The public interest group has called
for every drinking fountain to be replaced
with filtered water bottle filling stations. .
The group has also called for filtration systems
to be installed in any facility where
water is used for consumption. .
Philadelphia’s children deserve
safe drinking water, especially at the schools
where they go each day to learn and play.
As this data shows, it is critical that
Philadelphia decision-makers take
immediate action to get the lead out, PennPirg report, via 'The Guardian'.

The group found that 61% of 1,932 water
outlets tested showed lead contamination
in excess of one part per billion. .
The group also found that of 65 schools for which
data was available, 98% had at least one outlet
with contamination above safe levels. .
The science on lead is settled –
there is no safe level of exposure
and it is time to remove this risk
to support thriving people
and vibrant communities, Michael S Regan, Environmental Protection
