BROOKLYN, NY -- Ben Simmons spoke to the media for the first time since last playoffs in his introductory press conference with the Brooklyn Nets. The 76ers traded Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and two first-round picks to Brooklyn for James Harden and Paul Millsap.

Simmons told the media that the drama with the 76ers “wasn’t about the basketball. It wasn’t about the money. I wanted to be who I am and getting back to playing basketball at the level I can”. MORE QUOTES FROM SMMONS BELOW:

Simmons on validity of his mental health struggles: “They should be happy I’m smiling, honestly. I’ve had some dark times over the last 6 months. I’m just happy to be in this situation with this team. People are going to say what they want. They’ve said it the last 6 months."

On trade: “I was sitting there on my laptop with the TV in front. My phone started blowing up. It didn’t feel real for a few days honestly. Once I actually drove into the city, I was like ‘wow, I’m here’ which was very surreal-this whole experience has been surreal.”
