At the time of their wedding in 2005, it was announced that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall would use the title of 'Princess Consort' when Prince Charles became King. But throughout their 17-year marriage, there was much speculation that Camilla could one day be known as Queen Consort. The rumours were consistently denied by Clarence House, but the Queen took the opportunity on the eve of the 70th anniversary of her accession to announce her "sincere wish" that Camilla will be Queen Consort, bringing the matter effectively to a close.
