As the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar continues to grow, having opened 3 new indoor hard courts in December, it has just inaugurated another 7 semi-covered clay courts, which are now being enjoyed by the 150 players who reside at the high-performance centre in Manacor year round.

This extension to the facilities forms part of a development project that will continue to establish the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar as one of the world’s leading sports complexes. The coming months will see the official opening of the new complex that will house both the new covered courts that are already in use (3 hard courts and 7 clay) and a new fitness centre and innovative medical centre for the players that live at the Academy throughout the year as part of the annual programme that combines their training with academic studies. This extension (which will also include new clay, padel and beach volleyball courts) will also be used by the adults and children who participate in the one-week programmes at the Academy and for hosting international tournaments and events.

As part of the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar extension project, Rafa Nadal also officially opened the “Roland-Garros Restaurant”, an eatery whose ambience evokes the Paris Grand Slam. The design of its decoration and furnishings were inspired by the restaurants used by the tournament itself so that all diners enjoying the space will feel as if they were at one of the biggest tennis events on the planet.

The décor at the restaurant in Manacor includes pictures of some of the biggest stars in the history of the tournament. As well as Rafa Nadal himself (13-time winner of the French Open), images of Steffi Graff (winner in Paris in 1987, 1988, 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1999), Chris Evert (champion in 1974, 1975, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1985 and 1986) and Björn Borg (champion in 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981) also adorn the space.

The Roland-Garros restaurant, whose first diner was Rafa Nadal himself, will offer a range of quality gastronomy, with a menu created by the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar’s team of chefs and nutritionists. With a capacity of 60 people, reservations for the Roland-Garros Restaurant can be made for lunch and dinner from Monday to Sunday by emailing restaurante@rafanadalacademy.com or phoning 971171682. On Sundays, brunch will also be served from 10:00 to 12:00 with a wide range of healthy dishes, juices and smoothies.

The new restaurant joins the US-Open and Australian-Open themed spaces at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar as it continues to grow and make a name for itself in Mallorcan gastronomy.
