Thousands mourn Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh who introduced mindfulness, Zen to the West

Thich Nhat Hanh, the revered Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, died on January 22, 2022, at the age of 95. A memorial ceremony was held at the Tu Hieu Pagoda in Vietnam the next day to pay tribute to the late monk. Born in 1926 in the Vietnamese city of Hue, Nhat Hanh was ordained at the age of 16. He introduced “mindfulness” and Zen Buddhism to the West and advocated for world peace through his anti-war activism.
