US-Russia talks fail to resolve Ukraine standoff, Saudi-led coalition strikes back after Abu Dhabi attack
  • 2 years ago
With fears of an invasion of Ukraine running high and seemingly intractable demands, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met for about 90 minutes in Geneva at what the American said was a “critical moment.” However, the talks failed to yield a breakthrough in the crisis that has seen Moscow mass tens of thousands of troops at the border with Ukraine and the West ramp up supplies of weapons to Kyiv.
Days after a deadly attack on Abu Dhabi by Houthi rebels, a Saudi Arabia-led coalition rained fire on the Yemeni capital of Sanaa. At least 14 people were and two buildings levelled in the air strike "targeting Houthi camps and headquarters" after the UAE vowed a tough response to the assault inside its borders.
