Congress national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate hit out at the BJP-led central government over its decision to merge the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame with that of the National War Memorial. Speaking exclusively to India Today, Shrinate said, "This government has an issue with the very proud history of India. I don’t think any nation can alter its history by laying the foundation for future. Amar Jawan Jyoti has special significance; generations of Indians have found pride in what it represented. To extinguish and shift it is like playing around with history."
