This is the moment a group of NYPD officers rescued a trapped woman after a deadly gas explosion left one dead and several others injured.

A total of around 200 firefighters and emergency personnel were called to the raging fire and building collapse in the Longwood section of the Bronx yesterday morning.

The explosion caused the property to catch alight and first responders were on the scene within four minutes of the blast.

Shortly after, NYPD officers arrived to assist in evacuating neighbouring buildings which had also been badly damaged by the explosion.

The NYPD released a dramatic video from an officer's body-worn camera showing how cops bravely responded to the incident.

The video shows the officer's point of view as he runs down the road and into a severely damaged house adjacent to the house that exploded.

A woman trapped under a couch can be heard crying for help, to which officers already inside quickly respond by freeing her from debris.

One 77-year-old woman was sadly killed by the blast and eight others, including five police officers, were injured.

The video was filmed at 11am on January 18.
