Nineteen people, including nine children, were killed when a faulty space heater sparked a fire in a high-rise apartment building in Bronx, New York City. It was the deadliest fire that NYC had seen in three decades.

More than five dozen people were injured and at least 13 were hospitalised in critical condition, as per Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro. He also said that most of them were victims of smoke inhalation.
