Shallow earthquake in southwestern China causes injuries and damage

At least 22 people were injured by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake that struck the city of Lijiang, in China’s southwestern province of Yunnan, on January 2, 2022. The shallow quake damaged homes, roads and water lines in the area. Search and rescue crews were called out to help people in the affected areas, but there were no immediate reports of deaths.
