Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam in Beijing on December 22, days after the city’s Legislative Council election. He affirmed her and her government’s work bringing “chaos under control” and “improving Hong Kong’s electoral system”.  Chinese Premier Li Keqiang added that the city must “proactively connect” with China’s development strategies.
