On December 14, Karti Chidambaram, Sivaganga MP raised the issues concerning companies providing online courses to aspiring students. He alleged that these companies are minting money by auto-debiting amounts. Karti Chidambaram urged the education ministry to set up a system in order to check on the organizations providing online courses. He questioned the quality of courses provided and the caliber of those teaching in such organizations in India’s growing ed-tech sector. Chidambaram said that there is no vetting of the courses provided by these organizations. He said these companies are ‘loan sharks’. Karti Chidambaram said there are many social activists like Pradeep Poonia, Aniruddha Malpani and Nidhi Bahuguna, who brought up these issues but the companies, by using their power, took down these complaints from social media.
