Gen Bipin Rawat, India's CDS Dies: Timeline Of IAF Chopper Crash; PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi & More Condole Death

On December 8, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Bipin Rawat died in a chopper crash. Mi-17V5 chopper, carrying Gen Bipin Rawat and 13 others, crashed near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. In a tweet, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that CDS Gen Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat are among those who lost their lives in the tragedy. As per the Indian Air Force (IAF), Group Captain Varun Singh is the only survivor of the crash. Soon after the news of Gen Bipin Rawat’s death was confirmed by IAF, President of India, Ram Nath Singh tweeted, “The nation has lost one of its bravest sons.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “His passing away has saddened me deeply.” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “His untimely death is an irreparable loss to our Armed Forces and the country.” Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “This is an unprecedented tragedy and our thoughts are with their family in this difficult time.” Watch the video to know about the timeline of the crash.
