DAKAR FUTURE - Team De Rooy goes Electric

If Gerard de Rooy had delayed his return to the Dakar, it was maybe with the intention of saving himself for the 2023 edition, which will mark a decisive step in his team’s history and in that of “Dakar Future”.

Team De Rooy has created a partnership with UMS (Urban Mobility Systems) and Allison Transmissions to develop electric motors for Dakar 2023, with an ambition of a place on the podium. The first tests are planned for the month of April, with the truck being identical to that taking the start of Dakar 2022, apart from its diesel engine being replaced with an electric one. The plan is to drive 50-60% on the battery capacity, and 40-50% coming from a Range Extender.

With only electric service trucks and no more diesel generators in the service park, Team De Rooy is positioning itself as the first zero emission team between now and Dakar 2024. Game on.
