Following the emergence of the new coronavirus Variant of Concern 'Omicron', an expert of the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) said it is important to be alarmed and informed about the variant but there is no need to panic. Speaking to ANI, NIBMG Director Dr Saumitra Das said, “The new variant is reported to have multiple mutations in 1 variant, almost like 30 mutations in 1 viral protein, which is unusual. It could be more transmissible. No need to panic, but important to be informed.”
