After the Central govt cut excise duty of Rs 5 from petrol and Rs 10 diesel, offering relief to consumers after surging crude led to record prices. More BJP ruled states follow the move. Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam slash VAT from fuel prices. Opposition calls it a 'stunt'. The govt decision to slash prices will cost it 1 Lakh crore in revenue.
