Mitchell hit the winning runs as New Zealand beat Lasith Malinga’s side by five wickets in the first T20 in Pallekele on Sunday (September 1). While Malinga claimed his 99th wicket to move top of the all-time list in the format, it was the 79-run stand between Ross Taylor (48) and Colin de Grandhomme (44), coupled with a strong bowling performance from Tim Southee (2/20), that stole the show and helped the visitors seal the deal.
