Myanmar frees political prisoners after Asean pressure, then re-arrests some
  • 3 years ago
The military government that rules Myanmar is reportedly releasing over 5,600 political prisoners, who were detained in the protests that hit the country after the military's coup in February.

That's according to its state-run television.

Video obtained by Reuters shows a release from one prison, but local activists and media reports say some of those people freed were quickly arrested again - something which couldn't be verified.
