The Shakti Peethas are places of worship dedicated to the goddess ‘Shakti’, the main deity of the Shakta sect. They are scattered throughout the Indian subcontinent. This goddess is often associated both with Gowri / Parvati, the benevolent goddess of harmony, marital happiness and longevity, with Durga, goddess of strength and courage, and Mahakali, goddess of the destruction of evil. Sri Aadi Shankaracharya wrote this Ashtadasa Shakthi Peetha Stotram.

Pradyumne sharunkhaladevi chamundi kraunchapattane.
Alampure jogulamba shrishaile bhramarambika.
Kolhapure mahalakshmi mahurye ekavirika.
Ujjayinyam mahakali pithikyam puruhutika.
odhyayam girijadevi manikya dakshavatake.
Harikshetre kamarupa prayage madhaveshvari.
Jvalayam vaishnavi devi gaya mangalyagaurika.
Varanasyam vishalakshi kashmireshu sarasvati.
Ashtadasha supithani yoginamapi durlabham.
Sayankale pathennityam sarvashatruvinashanam.
Sarvarogaharam divyam sarvasampatkaram shubham.
