Coal Shortage Impacting China: What Is It? How Can It Affect India? Indian Govt's Response
  • 3 years ago
India could face coal trouble for six months in order to ensure that coal-fired power plants have enough fuel as the nation’s energy crisis deepens. More than half of the country’s plants are on alert for outages. This comes after escalation in demand for electricity and a slump in local coal output eroded stock. “I don’t know whether I will be comfortable in the next five to six, four to five months,” Raj Kumar Singh, Power Minister told The Indian Express. He said, while demand does typically slow with cooler weather from mid-October. Reportedly, coal accounts for nearly 70 per cent of India’s electricity generation. Like China, India is facing the impacts of a sharp rise in electricity demand. As the world reopens post pandemic, demand for Chinese products has risen and therefore, companies producing the products need a lot more power.
