Swelling is a condition in which a type of fluid builds up in the tissues of your body. So your skin swells from that place. This condition is called edema in medical language. Sometimes swelling is also associated with heart failure. So in this case, we call the swelling congestion and in this case the fluid gets stuck in your tissues.
