2.2 crore Covid vaccines on PM Modi's birthday; Why states opposing GST on petrol, diesel; more
  • 3 years ago
India administered over 2.2 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses on Friday till 7:00 pm, setting a new record on PM Narendra Modi's birthday. This is the first time that more than two crore jabs have been administered in a single day.

Meanwhile, many states are opposing the proposal to include petroleum products in the GST regime. States generate a considerable amount of revenue from taxing petroleum products. Each state has its own taxation structure for petrol and diesel. Under GST, even under the 28 per cent tax slab, states will earn a lot less compared to what they currently earn from petrol and diesel sales as value-added tax (VAT).
