Fugitive economic offender Nirav Modi’s paintings, which were seized by ED officials, on Tuesday, raised Rs 55 crore in an auction in Mumbai.
An untitled artwork by VS Gaitonde, which was seized from Modi’s premises, was sold for Rs 22 crore. Another painting depicting Maharaja of Travancore and his younger brother was sold for Rs 14 crore.
The money raised from the auction will be handed over to the Income tax department. 55 out of the total 68 paintings in Modi’s possession were sold in the auction.
