Taliban Announces Names To Head Government, UN Designated Terrorists On The List

On September 7, Taliban announced the key members of the new government in Afghanistan. This comes weeks after the Taliban took control over the capital of the country. Mullah Mohammad Hassan, an associate of the movement’s late founder Mullah Omar, is the head of the new government. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, head of the movement’s political office, will serve as his deputy. Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob who is the son of Taliban founder Mullah Omar will head the defence ministry. Sirajuddin Haqqani, leader of the Haqqani Network will serve as acting interior minister. He is on the FBI's most wanted list for terrorism. Mawlavi Hannafi has been entrusted with the responsibility of the second deputy head by the Taliban government. All these leaders are said to be the acting ministers in the new government. The new Taliban cabinet consists of at least five UN-designated terrorists. Haibatullah Akhundzada, Taliban’s Supreme leader, in his first public statement since August 15, said the Taliban were committed to all international laws & commitments not in conflict with Islamic law.
