Russian-brokered deal takes hold in Dara'a, Syria
  • 3 years ago
A Russian-brokered ceasefire has taken hold in Syria’s southern city of Dara’a following weeks of clashes between the government forces and Western-backed militants. Media belonging to both the Syrian government and the militants have confirmed the agreement. As part of the deal, Russian military police are deployed in Dara’a al-Balad, the militant-held old quarter of the city. The deal also involves the disarming or expulsion of a dozen terrorists who the Syrian government considered as a threat to the ceasefire agreement. Over the past weeks, the area has witnessed heavy fighting that led to dozens of militants and a number of soldiers being killed and many residents in the area being forced to flee their homes.
