Team India's Star Off Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin played his first match for Surrey in the County Championship. In his very first match, the Indian star bowler recorded a unique record in his name. R Ashwin made this special record against Somerset while playing for Surrey in the County Championship. In fact, Ashwin has become the first spinner in the last 11 years to start bowling with the new ball in the English county. Earlier in the year 2010, Jeetan Patel had done this. To prepare for the upcoming Test series against England, Ashwin decided to play in the County Championship.
