Zika virus in Kerala: All you need to know
  • 3 years ago
The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is receding, albeit at a much slower rate in Kerala, which has now confirmed the first Zika virus infection. It was confirmed on Thursday in Thiruvananthapuram in a 24-year-old pregnant woman.
Meanwhile, 15 more people have tested positive for the virus.
The Zika virus was discovered in monkeys in Uganda's Zika Forest in 1947 and has since caused several outbreaks around the world.
There are no available vaccines or antiviral drugs for prevention or treatment. In 2016, WHO declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
