After serving guests for 30 years, Hotel Istana in Kuala Lumpur will close its doors on Sept 1st.

General manager Noorazzudin Omar said the hotel's competitive advantage had declined over the years in the face of stringent competition from new and neighbouring hotels and serviced apartments.

The situation was made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic which has crushed most hotels except those that offer quarantine facilities.
