This is the bizarre story of 8 families in Silapokhari village under Rajnagar block of Kendrapada district. They have been the victims of a diktat of a kangaroo court, which has ostracized them. The court has also ordered a penalty of Rs 151 if they speak to anyone or they are spoken to.
It is alleged that it is an offshoot of a dispute related to a construction of a village community centre. Khageshwar Das, who is a resident of the village, objected the construction of a community centre in front of his house.
Despite his objection the community centre was built in the village, following which Khageshwar took legal recourse to object the construction. As the dispute escalated a kangaroo court was convened to resolve the conflict.
The villagers termed Khageshwar’s objection to the community centre as an anti-village activity. The villagers demanded the ostracization of Khageshwar’s family at the Kangaroo court. Apart from this, there were seven other families who came out in support of Khageshwar, and surprisingly they have also been ostracized.
