BJP continued to intensify its protest over alleged lapses in paddy procurement in Odisha. BJP workers led by the party’s State Unit President Samir Mohanty, Leader of the Opposition Pradipta Naik, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari and many other senior leaders staged dharna on the premises of the Sambalpur Town Police Station.
The saffron party leaders were on a dharna on the police station premises overnight as well.
With the protests continuing today, a major scuffle broke out between the police and the BJP workers, when the protestors attempted to enter the police station premises.
Huge platoons of police were deployed at the site to control the situation.
Meanwhile, responding to protests, the ruling-BJD said that it is a ploy of the BJP to divert the attention from the farmer protests at the national level.
The State BJP took out a massive rally in Sambalpur yesterday as well protesting against the alleged mismanagement in the paddy procurement process. Several senior party leaders and workers in large numbers participated in the rally. During the rally a scuffle had broken out between police and the saffron party workers, following which, the Odisha BJP President Samir Mohanty and the Leader of Opposition (LoP), Pradipta Naik were arrested by the police. Moreover, at least 15 BJP activists were arrested for allegedly trying to enter the office of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner.
