The Keonjhar Town police today detained the prime accused, Sanjay Mohanty in connection with the attack bid on Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik.
The police are interrogating the accused regarding the motive behind the attack.
The vehicle of the OPCC President was allegedly attacked by some miscreants on Sunday (January 17) near Kashipur, when Patnaik was returning from Keonjhar.
When Patnaik’s personal security officer (PSO) Rakesh Singh tried to stop them, the miscreants allegedly grabbed him by the neck and thrashed him. However, after an ambulance approached and some party activists arrived at the spot, the miscreants fled the spot.
An FIR was lodged with the Keonjhar Town Police under Sections 341, 294, 323, 307, 427 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following the incident.
Niranjan Patnaik condemned the attack thorough a tweet and alleged the involvement of BJP youth wing in the attack.
