PPE Kit Scam: Vigilance Probe Ordered By Odisha Lokayukta | OTV News

The Lokayukta has directed Vigilance Probe into the alleged irregularities in procurement of COVID19 PPE kits and masks. The Lokayukta has also asked the Vigilance Director, to submit report within two months of receiving the notice for the probe. The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for February 15, 2021. A hearing in connection with the alleged scam took place in the Lokayukta office.
Industries department secretary Hemant Sharma and Managing Director of the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited Yamini Sarangi appeared before the Lokayukta during the hearing. According to sources, the two senior IAS officers informed the Lokayukta that all procurements were done through a special procurement committee.
On the other hand, Congress leader Sudarsan Das has alleged that the information provided by the IAS officers is fake and fabricated.
Earlier on June 5, the State government had removed Hemant Sharma from the supervision of the procurement of masks and PPE kits following corruption allegations. Later on November 5, the Odisha Lokayukta had served a notice to Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy to furnish a response on the allegations.
