Odisha has now made helmets mandatory for two-wheeler pillion riders. Odisha State Transport Department (STA) informed about the decision through a tweet. The Odisha State Transport Department said that the driving license will be suspended if both the rider and the pillion rider are found without helmets.

The STA warned motorists to strictly adhere to the new helmet rules under the amended Motor Vehicles Act 2019.

Odisha Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera had earlier announced that wearing helmets will be made mandatory for pillion riders from March 1, 2020. However, the enforcement was postponed due to the COVID19 lockdowns.
