Mission Uttar Pradesh: Why BJP wants Jitin Prasada?

With the UP election less than a year away, the BJP poaches a prominent Brahmin face from the Congress to woo the influential community. Jitin Prasada and his T-20 were part of the Congress’s Mission UP

The 47-year-old Prasada had been sulking in the Congress for the past two and a half years. He had, in fact, decided to quit the party and join the BJP before the 2019 general elections. Two calls at that time prevented him from doing so; the first from Jyotiraditya Scindia and the second from Priyanka Gandhi. Today, Scindia is already in the BJP. And for the past two days, Prasada has kept his mobile switched off to avoid getting calls from the Gandhi siblings.

He is first from the G-23—the group of Congress leaders who asked for organisational change and elections to the post of party chief—to exit. And as Uttar Pradesh goes to election in less than a year, being a Brahmin face, Prasada will come in useful for the BJP to woo the influential Brahmin community in the state.
